East: yellow area

Coming through the gap from the sink area, there is a Lonicera japonica haliana on the pergola and the hedge continues with Chamaecyparis lawsoniana 'Pendbury Blue' and columnaris glauca and an unknown Hebe with an underplanting of Box and a few Privet; ending with a varigated bamboo, (possibly Pleioblastus shibuyanus 'Tsuboi'), Pleioblastus auricomus and the black bamboo, Phylostachys nigra.

To the right, the small courtyard formed by the garage, conservatory and house has a second Acer japonicum 'Osakazuki', a Burmese berberis, (Berberis hypokerina), in a pot by the conservatory window and Lonicera japonica 'Halliana' on the garage wall. In the courtyard gravel are self-seeded Geranium sessilifolium novae-zelandiae nigricans, Acaena 'Copper Carpet', Carex and wild Violas.

Mahonia japonica

Hamamelis

Against the East side of the garage is a Virginia creeper, (Parthenocisus quinquifolia), and an ornamental vine, Vitus vinifera purpurea.

In the gravel of this area is the Japanse Maple, A. palmatum 'Shishigashira'; the 'Lion Scarer'!

Near the bamboo is an Acer rufinerve and the shrubby Amour Maple, (A. ginala), whilst to the right of the gate is a Witchhazel, (Hamamelis x intermedia 'Diane)' and a Trident Maple, (A. buergeranium).

To the left of the gate is a group of ferns which includes Athyrium otophorum and the Aleutian form of Adiantum pedatum.
